My Review

Chez Gars is a beloved local street-food hangout nestled in Vacoas‑Phoenix, known for serving hearty, authentic Mauritian dishes. Open daily (except Thursdays) from mid-morning to early evening, it’s especially celebrated for its mine bouillie—boiled noodles topped with seafood, meat, or vegetables—often served alongside flavorful crab broth and buttery satini sauces. Other favourites include bol renversé, fried noodles, and savoury salmi dishes like lamb or chicken stew. With fast and friendly service, affordable pricing, and generous portions, Chez Gars draws locals seeking bold flavours in a lively, casual atmosphere. A true local gem.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Food is excellent, especially the boiled noodles with Salmi Agneau. However the dumplings were not up to par, and waiting times can be long. It’s a very small snack, so expect to struggle to find a spot at peak times.

“I had a very disappointing experience. We waited 45 minutes for our food, only to be served the wrong dish. Even after the mistake, no one came to retake our order or offer a solution. In the end, we left without eating. It’s clear that they need more staff in the kitchen—expecting one person to handle all the cooking is unrealistic, especially with so many customers. Definitely not the experience we were hoping for.”

⭐⭐⭐
Boulettes not worth it. Bouillon is too salty . Noodles are very decent. Toppings are above average.
