My Review

Located on Sir William Newton Street near the busy bazaar in Port Louis, Dholl Puri Palace, also known as Dalpuri Maraz, has been serving up top-quality dholl puris since 1963. This family-run spot is famous for its soft, freshly made puris stuffed with hearty fillings like gros pois, rougaille, chutneys, and vegetable curries. The flavours are bold and comforting, offering an authentic taste of Mauritian street food. Despite the lunchtime rush and long queues, service is fast and efficient. There’s simple seating upstairs if you want to eat in, though it can get a bit warm. With generous portions and affordable prices, Dholl Puri Palace remains a go-to for locals craving real, satisfying street fare.

Champ de Mars

Champ de Mars in Port Louis is the oldest racecourse in the southern hemisphere and a lively place to enjoy your food with a unique atmosphere. On race days, the grounds come alive with cheering crowds, vibrant colours, and the excitement of horses thundering past, turning a simple snack into part of the spectacle. On quieter days, it offers open space and greenery where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your meal while taking in the view of the surrounding mountains. Whether you love the thrill of the races or want a peaceful picnic, Champ de Mars offers both.
