My Review

Located at the riverside bus terminal on Rue des Hollandais, Roti Mahebourg Waterfront is a cherished Sunday-only street food tradition in Mahebourg. With a history stretching back years, this spot is famous for its thin, freshly made rotis filled with spiced curry, fresh tomato, and a splash of chilli sauce. At just around Rs 15 per roti, it’s one of the most affordable and satisfying snacks in the region. The team behind the stall works efficiently—one person kneads the dough, another cooks the rotis, and a third adds the fillings, all served with a friendly smile. Many visitors end up ordering seconds. Enjoying your roti with a waterfront view makes the experience even more special.

It is worth travelling to Mahebourg on Sundays as it is becoming a bit of a folklore thing now, and the culinary experience is worth it! Being apprehensive the first time, I asked for one roti to try – within seconds, I had to ask for a second one as it was so good. The roti is prepared and cooked on the spot, and the curry and tomato filling together with the chilli makes this an absolute delight! The owner is such a nice and friendly guy too, it’s easy to strike a conversation with him while you wait for your roti to be prepared. If you need to cool off, a Glaçon Rapé from Ice Cool Man nearby is readily available.
